Has anyone else seen this “vintage” packaging for Raisin Bran? It caught my eye at Dominick’s and it made me stop and wonder what it was. So I guess the repackaging worked. I think it’s only for a limited time though. I went to the Post website looking for info on this and I couldn’t find anything. Weird.
Interesting commentary on crowdsourcing (courtesy of Wired) and how Twitter paid a designer only $6 for their infamous bird image.

The Wisconsin Tourism Federation has an unfortunate acronym for their organization. So much so, that they’ve rebranded themselves as the Tourism Federation of Wisconsin. It’s amazing how powerful lingo is these days.

I’m a huge geek when it comes to logos. I love when companies change their branding (for the better). Unfortunately not all rebranding is successful. The one that comes to mind for me is the Animal Planet logo. Their previous logo made sense. It was very literal with images of the earth and an elephant. When I first saw the new one I was confused. Don’t get me wrong. I love the use of typography exclusively in logos, but this doesn’t work for me. I’m not sure why the “M” is turned on it’s side. Can someone shed some light? Are there any logos out there that you absolutely love (or despise)?

Thanks to Design Reviver and BrandXpress for their graphics!

There are many coffee shops here in Chicago, but I would say that the biggest ones are Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Caribou Coffee & Intelligentsia. I thought it would be interesting to compare their logos. Simply judging from their logos (and not their coffees) I would say that Dunkin’ Donuts is the clearest as far as what they sell due to the graphic of the coffee cup on the left. The colors on the other hand are questionable. I like that Starbucks’ logo is solid and compact, which is great for branding. You could use that logo on almost anything. The Caribou Coffee logo makes me think organic and natural because of the caribou graphic and the treatment of the text. I guess the Intelligentsia logo also has an image of a coffee cup in its logo but its so hard to tell what it is. The logo suggests “high-end” and “quality”. Not sure what the wings represent though. What do you think? Out of these 4, which logo do you like best? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
